There have been analysed baroque marriage sermons of the XVIIth century of Petro Mohyla and Kasiyan Sakovych, and defined their thematic and poetic peculiarities. Ukrainian baroque sermon was metempiric and was accepted as the material for salvation. Baroque interpretation about a human was based on Cristian religious doctrine with emphasis in the sermons being made on moral and ethnic principles omitting the problems of real life. Metropolitan Petro Mohyla is an author of a sermon about marriage, being very important for scholars in literature and the faithful. There have been given thoughts about marriage ceremony with instruction. This peculiarity distinguishes it greatly from other texts of a prelate with the main attention being paid on depicting “miracle”. Mohyla uses traditional structure in the sermon about marriage: introduction, narration-instruction, conclusions-wishes. The prelate begins in-troduction with memories about the world creation, in particular a human as an image of a man and for him and from him – the image of a woman. Thus, taking into account and citing the Gospel, Petro Mohyla informs the topic of the sermon. The main part of the sermon proves the greatness of life in marriage, describes the essential duties of a husband and a wife for happy mutual life. At the end of the speech the prelate wishes once more long happy years of mutual life, enabling to wait for descendents. Kasiyan Sakovych sermons are also eccentric, being included in a treatise “Aristotel problems, or Putania pro pryrodu luidyny…”: “Slovo narechenoho pro podruzhne zhytia”, “Diakuvania po shlubi”, “Vvedenia narechenoi do spochyvalni”. These sermons like Petro Mohyla’s cite the Gospel and have traditional structure: introduction, main part and conclusions-wishes. The prelate’s thoughts about the importance of marriage, couple’s duties and the virtue the new-lyweds acquire in marriage are interesting for analysis.
