Проведено порівняння країн за індексом людського розвитку відповідно до досліджень рівня життя населення 188 країн світу, виконаних Програмою розвитку Організації Об’єднаних Націй для формування доповідей ООН про розвиток людини.The article is devoted to the problem of human development and determination of Ukraine's place in the world ranking on the index of human development. In this paper, the authors examined exactly which methodological approaches and by which indicators the grouping of countries is carried out according to the Human Development Index. It was also emphasized that it is economic development and a competent allocation of resources that best contributes to raising the country's ranking in human development. On the basis of statistical data, the dynamics of the main indicators of human development in Ukraine was studied. The authors emphasized that the potential of human development in Ukraine is not used sufficiently, and the gap with other countries is maintained, the human potential of Ukraine is characterized by negative transformation processes in all its components. The Human Development Index is a consolidated indicator of human development, which characterizes the average level of achievements of this country in two of the most important aspects of human development: life expectancy and education. The main methods of research in the article were: analysis and synthesis of methods, method of comparison, generalization. This work uses textbooks, scientific publications of Ukrainian and foreign economists. Human development can be defined as giving people the opportunity to fully develop their potential, to live productively and creatively in harmony with their needs and interests. Therefore, the authors emphasize the priority of increasing the activity component of the human potential of Ukrainian society.
