The subject and main tasks of foreign trade statistics are determined. The general principles of formation of the official statistical methodology are considered. Methods of research of structure and dynamics of foreign trade are systematized. As a result, there are two main groups: non-formalized methods (qualitative) and formalized methods (quantitative). A system of indicators used for analytical characterization of foreign trade is proposed.
