Крашевського «Kwiat paproci» – максимально наближеного до оригіналу (переклад Ю. Звенигородського) і адаптованого до дитячого читацького сприйняття. Виявлено різні набори перекладацьких трансформацій, які застосовано в обох випадках. Переклад, орієнтований на збереження авторського стилю, містить тільки найнеобхідніші трансформації, зумовлені прагненням до відповідності тексту перекладу стилістичним вимогам української мови. Адаптаційний переклад польської літературної казки українською мовою залучає значно ширший арсенал перекладацьких трансформацій, найчастотнішими з яких є заміна нетипових для української дитячої казки усталених казкових формул, фразеологізмів, трансформація фразеологічного образу, синонімічні заміни, у тому числі шляхом використання експресивних демінутивів, аугментивів тощоIn linguistics, the issue of tales translation strategies has been analyzed on the basis of tales written in languages nonrelated to Ukrainian. Such analysis of Polish-Ukrainian translations has not been done yet. The aim of our research is to analyze two variants of translation of a Polish fairy tale “Kwiat paproci” by J. Kraszewski. One of these variants is tightly approximated to the original text (translation by Yu. Zvenyhorodskyi), another one is an adaptation for children. The analysis allows making a conclusion that a literary tale greatly differs from a folk tale by author’s perception, style and, however, can be translated by using strategies oriented on maximum preservation of the aforementioned peculiarities as well as using a strategy oriented on achieving pragmatic effect (adaptation translation). In both cases, a translator uses different sets of translation transformations. Translation oriented on preserving author’s style contains only necessary transformations due to desire to preserve stylistic aspects of the Ukrainian language in translation. These include substitutions caused by differences in grammar system of the two languages. These lexical substitutions are related to generalization and specification, synonymic substitutions and omissions caused by traditions of Ukrainian word usage. Adaptation translation of Polish literary tales into Ukrainian comprises a much wider range of translation transformations, most common of which is substitution of set formulas and phraseological units that are non-typical for Ukrainian fairy tales, transformation of phraseological images, synonymic substitutions that include usage of expressive diminutives and augmentatives. To avoid potentially obscure realias or expressions, substitution of expressive units with neutral ones, substitution or omission of certain realias or entire text excerpts are an option. At the same time, to achieve higher level of reader’s comprehension, addition is used in order to emphasize lexical images or clear certain situations.
