It is determined that self-harm can be observed in people who have mental disorders, or suffer from psychosis, schizophrenia, depression, apathy or they have personality disorders. People who seek to harm themselves, in most cases, report their condition as follows: a feeling of emptiness inside, problem in expressing their feelings, lack of understanding with other people, difficulties in establishing contacts with others, avoidance of responsibility, fear of intimate relationships. It is established that another reason for self-harm is the need to attract attention, to satisfy some needs, the satisfaction of which a person for certain reasons (internal, external) does not try to ask, or through the refusal of others to the request to satisfy them. Describes the main causes of self-harm: serotonin – related to lack of the hormone serotonin, which is responsible for the regulation of emotional reactions, opiata – cause sensations of euphoria about pain, cortisolemia – neurotic excoriation activates the production of cortisol, which increases under stress. The classification of various types of self-harm and their consequences for the mental and physical health of the individual has also been developed.
