Resource and behavioural approaches are underlined as the most important. Such innovative potential characteristic as an industrial enterprise's readiness to innovative changes is described as one of the most essential. The article also focuses on the structure of innovative potential of an industrial enterprise in the context of the strategic aims of innovative activity. It points out the possibility and reasonability of improving the resource element of innovative potential of a machine-building enterprise at the expense of its motivational component.
