The research deals with the negative impact of traumatic events of the armed conflict in eastern Ukraine on the psyche and social and psychological adaptation of the affected people. who have a pronounced stress disorder and for the most part cannot and do not know how to cope with the conditions and feelings they are experiencing. It is also important that this phenomenon has an impact not only on the participant of the war zone, but also on his immediate environment - family, friends, acquaintances, who often do not know how to behave and react. A stressful condition can become a crisis because of repeated futile efforts to get rid of it. Life goals disappear, people are unable to see the future or set other goals, to give their lives a new meaning. And as a result, the adaptation to the new reality is complicated. In the context of stress psychological adaptation of the person occurs mainly through coping strategies and mechanisms of psychological protection. In the process of psychological adaptation coping strategies play a compensatory function, and psychological protective mechanisms - decompensation, but they give time to the psyche to develop more effective methods of overcoming. The task of specialists of any profile is to help a person to adapt to a new place and return as quickly as possible to the usual life. It is important to find and restore, as soon as possible, the connection between the past and the present, to restore the picture of the world that was traumatized, based on professional affiliation, role-playing, restoration of behavior that can be restored in present-day living. According to experts, the absence of a concept, a nationwide program and a system of rehabilitation measures aggravates the problem of mental disorders every day, and aggravates its negative social, economic and political consequences.
