The article is devoted to the problem of discrimination in the labor market in Ukraine. The essence of discrimination is disclosed and its definition is given. It has been found that discrimination leads to negative social and economic consequences such as lowering the employment rate among certain categories of the population: women, students, persons of pre-retirement age and socially vulnerable groups of the population. This leads to a drop in the standard of living of the population; loss of income and qualifications; increasing social tension; increase in the number of criminogenic situations; increasing social inequality; increase in the number of psychological and physical diseases; the fall of labor activity; reduction of tax revenues to the state budget. The level of employment and unemployment among men and women is analysed, it is revealed that the main reasons for the unemployed population among women and men are: resignations or dismissal by agreement, dismissal for economic reasons; not employed persons who were graduated from general education and higher educational establishments. The index of gender inequality was determined, a comparative analysis was carried out on the given indicator between the countries: Germany, Turkey, Poland, Georgia, and Ukraine. The negative dynamics of the gender gap in Ukraine is revealed, which is caused by social and economic factors. The analysis of the labor market in Ukraine shows the spread of age-old discrimination. So the analysis of the occupied population by age testifies to the obvious vulnerability of pensioners, people of pre-retirement age and young people aged 15-24. It is revealed that the causes of this situation in the older generation are the reduction of working capacity and endurance, the low level of computer knowledge, as well as the ability to study and retrain in comparison with younger workers. Among young people is the lack of work experience, the desire of young people to work on a flexible schedule.
