Анотація
У статті досліджується епістолярна спадщина В. Гнатюка й Осипа Маковея. Акцентується увага на
внесок В. Гнатюка в різні аспекти громадського, культурного й літературного життя.
Volodymyr Mykhailovych Gnatyuk plays a leading role among prominent scientists that belong to Lviv school of linguistics. The period of the turn of the Century (ХІХ – ХХ) was significant in nation‘s history. It was characterized by activization of social, political, artistic life. V. Gnatyuk was a prominent figure in that time. Research of works by Volodymyr Gnatyuk was started back in early XX Century after publication of his first works that were highly evaluated by the critics. In general, the research of works by the famous Ukrainian writer at the beginning of the XXI Century comprises a big number of research papers and critical materials regarding the works by V. Gnatyuk. However, a big share of manuscripts is still difficult to access and is not included to a complex reference analysis. In fund 83 «V. Gnatyuk» of the department of manuscripts and textual study of Shevchenko Institute of Literature of the National Academy of Science of Ukraine, a collection of works by V. Gnatyuk is stored. In this article, we will analyze the paper-collection dialogue between V. Gnatyuk and O. Makovey. Archives account for around several dozens of letters, the first one dating back to 1895. In the paper-collection discourse, the respondents talk about urgent issues of that period: preservation of national and cultural identity, collection and research of ethnographical materials, honoring I. Franko. The researcher analyzed issues of culture and education, and was also engaged in collecting the treasures of folk poetry. I. Frnako called Volodymyr Gnatyuk «a phenomenally happy collector of any ethnographical material that was not probably trusted by neither of our ancient collectors».
