This paper explores the sociolinguistic nature of British linguistic etiquette through the lens of Politeness Theory. The study focuses on how historical concepts of social hierarchy and the “negative politeness” model shape modern British communicative strategies, such as hedging, understatement, and indirectness. The research incorporates recent empirical data (2020–2026) regarding “polite-isms” and the evolution of non-imposition politeness in contemporary British discourse.
