| dc.description.abstract | The article deals with urban motives in short stories by B. Nyzhakivs‘kyi. The literary life in L‘viv of inter-war period was quite active; significant literature circles were formed here, existed a great deal of art associations among which a prominent spot belongs to the «Dvanadsyatka». B. Nyzhakivs‘kyi was one of the most prominent activists of this association. His works became the object of investigation among literary critics, namely from the diaspora. The creative work by B. Nyzhakivs‘kyi proves further broadening of thematic horizons of West-Ukrainian prose and renovation of range of genres. The collective volume of prose «batyars‘ki» stories and tales «Vulytsya (The Street)», published in 1936 in L‘viv, brought fame the author. Starting with the first story «Sobacha Sprava (The Dog‘s Business)» from the collective volume «Vulytsya (The Street)», we observe psychologism and author‘s attention to the inner world of the character. Most part of B. Nyzhakivs‘kyi‘s creative works belongs to the urban literature. In the story «Zustrich (The Meeting)», a city should be considered as a full-value artistic image that has its «flesh» and specific features. Here, we observe a contradiction of «city-village» peculiar to Ukrainian literature. In artistic selfconsciousness of humanity, a city is often opposed to a village by the example of a binary opposition of «the capital / province», «sacral / profane». In his story «Pershyi Den‘ (The First Day)», B. Nyzhakivs‘kyi shows cruelty of the street and urban environment. In the series of stories «Vulytsya (The Street)», B. Nyzhakivs‘kyi creates a continual text of the street and, therefore, shows immanent-expressive power of L‘viv as a topos.The works of the author are analyzed in light of West-Ukrainian literature of inter-war period. | uk_UA |
