The one of the tasks of studying modern literature we consider in helping young people find their way in the world, which, following F. Nietzsche, can be described as “beyond good and evil”. Violence, cruelty, commercialism overwhelm the information sphere today where young people find themselves. The phenomena of the estrangement, the closure of young people in their inner world, the inability to understand themselves, the deformation of the perception of reality have become ubiquitous. Therefore, during studying the world literature, it is necessary to turn to works that carry the ideals of humanism, goodness, truth, justice and evoke empathy. Among them are the novel by Marcus Zuzak (Australia) "The Book Thief" (the problem of a young man's search for himself under the influence of literature), Eric Siegel (USA) "A Love Story" (the problem of relationships between young people of different social layers), stories and novels by Anna Gavald (France) (problems of kindness, humanity, decency of relationships), the book by Michael Morpurgo (Great Britain) "The War Horse" (the problem of the relationship between man and wildlife in critical historical periods), a series of books "The Diaries of Adrian Mole" by Sue Townsend (Great Britain) (the problem of the formation of a human personality), other works of famous modern writers of world literature for youth. Let’s consider some aspects of the study the works of modern writers by students of the humanities faculties, in particular, the novel by S. Townsend "The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole", which, based on the study of the evolution of the protagonist's inner world, opens up great opportunities for the formation of a personality that is just being formed. The genre of the diary helped the writer show the versatility of the teenager's unseen world and allows readers, when meeting with the inner world of the protagonist, to rethink their own life, to find analogies in it withthe experience of Adrian. So, young people learn to find themselves together with the main character S. Townsend
