Анотація
У статті розглядаються лексичні засоби вираження іронії як категорії художнього тексту на матеріалі
художньої прози німецького письменника Е.М. Ремарка, розкриваються механізми створення іронії та
аналізуються мовні засоби її вираження. У статті з‘ясовується, що іронія є концептуальною категорією
художнього тексту, яка дозволяє письменникові передати емоційно-оцінне ставлення до інформації, що
відображається. Серед мовних засобів вираження іронії в досліджуваних художніх текстах провідна роль
належить протиставленням, лексемам, які не мають іронічної наповненості, смисловій двоякості словесних
знаків, власним назвам
The article analyzes lexical means of expression of irony on the ground of the novels of the German writer E. M. Remarque. Irony is discussed as a conceptual category of fiction and a stylistic technique which allows the writer to show emotional and evaluative attitude towards the displayed reality. The mechanisms of creating irony via actualization of the new contextual connotative meaning of the word are revealed. As examples presented in the article show, this new meaning is mostly formed implicitly on the ground of opposition. The language means of the expression of irony in the text are analyzed. Among the linguistic expressive means of irony which have been discovered in the investigated texts, the leading role belongs to opposition, the use of lexemes which have no ironic connotation but express it implicitly, the exploitation of semantic duality of polisemantic lexemes, and the use of lexemes which possess explicit ironic connotation in the structure of their lexical meaning. In the analyzed novels, irony is often used alongside sarcasm in order to reflect the grief and bitterness of the narrator, which can be considered a peculiarity of Remarque‘s artistic manner. The use of the abovementioned means of irony expression is aimed at a well-versed reader whose background knowledge allows decoding of the hidden meanings which are introduced in the texts.
