dc.description.abstractДана наукова розвідка присвячена дослідженню реалізації зв’язків на рівні "сюжет – характер" у новелістиці В. Фолкнера. Розглянуто основні принципи сюжетно-композиційної організації малої прози американського письменника та визначено їх роль в актуалізації внутрішньо-психологічних реалій персонажа. Проаналізовано особливості використання прийомів ретроспекції та монтажу. Визначено домінуючу сюжетну схему. Доведено, що сюжет у фолкнерівських новелах характеризується інтеріоризацією та редукцією фабульної подієвості.uk_UA
dc.description.abstractWilliam Faulkner is concidered to be the master of psychological prose, no matter is it a novel or a short story. Focusing on the revelation of the discrete structure of an individual psychology W. Faulkner creates a remarkably new type of psychological analysis at the beginning of the XX-th century. It is symbolic, latent, impulsive psychologism, deprived of determinism, rationalistic explanations, analytical elements and causality. All above mentioned features can be successfully actualized by the auther on the plot level. The following article deals with the investigation of interrelation between plot and character in W. Faulkner’s psychological short stories. The research also encompasses the analysis of the author’s main principles of compositional arrangement of the text which are aimed at representation of a person’s internal life. The American writer tends to apply the cutting as a paradigm modernistic method of the plot organization. As we can see it in a number of his short stories ("A rose for Emily", "Elli", "Uncle Willy", "Victory", "Hair", "Carcassonne" etc.) the author manages to catch abruptly the most extreme and complex existential moment from a character’s inner microcosm and intensifies it by means of one or more reprospective scenes and episodes. As a rule W. Faulkner prefers a ring or circle matrix of the plot organization. Playing with compositional elements of the plot and deviating its traditional chronology the author accumulates the psychological collision in the center of the story meantime the action is positioned on the margines of the short story. It is concluded that the author’s emphasis on the character’s feelings and reflections leads to reduction of external events in short stories by W. Faulkner. Protagonists’ actions are unpredictable and illogical, their psychological motives and incentives are in the deep context. The traditional chronology of events in the plot is deliberately broken.uk_UA
