The article presents an analysis of psychological and pedagogical studies on the formation of a child's self-esteem in the senior preschool age. The importance of forming adequate self-esteem in preschool children is highlighted. We consideredthe origin and definition of the term "self-esteem", which means the assessment of the individual itself, its capabilities, qualities, place among other people and their attitude to it. Analysis and generalization of approaches and concepts to the study of the problem of self-esteem of preschoolers shows that preschool age is favorable for the formation of self-esteem of the child and is an important prerequisite for the emergence of its adequacy. In the senior preschool age, the child's need for adult evaluation is great, but the child's self-assessment begins to be based on the results and conclusions that the child acquires in individual experience. The most negative impact on the development of the preschool child's personality is carried out by an inadequately low self-esteem or an adequate, close to low self-esteem, since it inhibits activity, produces the development of self-doubt, inability to set difficult goals and achieve them. Adequate self-esteem is the basis for the formation of a child's self-confidence and their capabilities, is the basis for the development of personal fullness, competence. Inadequate self-assessment (both high self-esteem and low self-esteem), on the contrary, prevents the disclosure and implementation of the child's capabilities and skills, leads to internal conflicts, disruption of communication, and generally indicates a poor development of the child. An experimental study was conducted and three levels of self-esteem in preschoolers were identified: high, adequate, low. It was determined that adequate self-esteem prevails in the senior preschool age. Low self-esteem is much less common, it is based not on a critical attitude to yourself, but on uncertainty in their abilities. It is established that parents of such children, as a rule, make excessive demands on them, use only negative ratings, and do not take into account their individual characteristics and capabilities. In the context of the study, the psychological conditions for the formation of self-esteem are defined, which are the assessments of significant adults-parents of senior preschoolers and teachers of preschool educational institutions.
