Phonetics features of the Ukrainian charters as the valuable source for studying of the Ukrainian language are analyzed in the article. Ukrainian charters have many features of the live national language. The aim of the scientific research is to investigate the system of consonant phonemes in the remembrances of the Ukrainian XIV century writing. So, the source base for studying of consonantism of Old Ukrainian language has become texts in the Ukrainian charters of the XIV centuries, which were adjusted by M. Peshchak, and four charters of the end of the XIV century, which were published by O. Moldovan. These remembrances represent in such regions as Volyn and nearby North territories, Galychyna, East Poland lands, Bukovyna and neihbouring South lands.
Research results in the Ukrainian charters of the XIV century has given grounds to affirm that different realization of consonant phonemes caused the development of variations in the consonantism of the Old Ukrainian language. Analysis of the consonant systems in the beginning of the XIV century in the Ukrainian literary language phonetics showed that there was a notable recession from church-slavic writing traditions. Distinct phonetic features which have become differential characteristics of the modern Ukrainian literary language are detected. Some of the phonetic proceses are traced in the nowadays spoken national language.
